Myth 1: Osteoporosis is Calcium Deficiency Disease
Many nutrients are necessary to prevent bones from losing minerals and to strengthen the bones. Of course, bones require calcium but your body cannot absorb calcium if it doesn’t have adequate supplies of other vitamins and minerals.
Myth 2: Osteoporosis Can Be Helped or Prevented by Consuming More Dairy Products
Research shows the higher intake of dairy products, the greater the risk of developing osteoporosis due to the processing of milk makes it more acidic. It is inaccurate to assume that any food that contains high amounts of calcium will be adequately digested to extract the minerals and store in the bones the exact amount needed.
Myth 3: Osteoporosis is Unaffected by Lifestyle
Osteoporosis is primarily a lifestyle disease. Genetics only play a minor role where active lifestyle and exercise are important. Where as a stressful life, depression, smoking and prescription drugs are all causes.
Myth 4: Osteoporosis Can Be Prevented by Taking Calcium
Not all types of calcium are digested or absorbed well. You need magnesium to break down the calcium and studies have shown that we need more magnesium than calcium to absorb calcium to the bones. If your body is acidic it will take the calcium to neutralize your body but never find its way into your bones.
Ways to Balance pH to Prevent and Improve Osteoporosis
How the Body Functions – Humans eat and breathe in order to gain energy. Waste products arise in normal metabolism but are excreted by the body. If the body produces acidic metabolic waste products at a rate higher than can be neutralized or excreted this will result in a hyper-acidity of the body in the long term. In cases of extensive lack of alkaline mineral salts and continuous hyper-acidity the body resorts to using its own minerals, e.g. calcium from the bones which then can result in osteoporosis.
Why Do You Get Acidic
- Highly acidifying food (e.g. meat, dairy, wheat, coffee, refined sugar, refined flour, medications etc.)
- To much stress
- Inflammatory processes ( injury, sprains etc.)
- Insufficient alkalinizing food (e.g. raw fruit, raw vegetables, green products, minerals)
- Insufficient exercise
- Insufficient fresh air
What is pH and How to Check It
pH is potential Hydrogen ions in the body. The chemical parameter for the strength of an acid (pH value between 0 and 6) or an alkaline base (pH value between 7-14). Any acidic number cause inflammatory conditions and any extreme alkaline number causes rare disease. The ideal number is 7-7.5 and disease doesn’t develop in a pH balanced body.
The easiest way to determine your acid base status is to measure the pH value of your urine. You can purchase pH testing strips at your local health food store. The most accurate time to test is the 1st or 2nd urine of the morning before you have eaten. In the beginning you can measure the pH value over a few days taking notes of what you eat and drink, which will help to determine what can be altering your pH. Then as it improves you can do it 1-2 times a week to make sure it is still remaining balanced. It will take some changes in life style to get the pH balanced which won’t happen over night. Also if you find you are doing everything you can and it still is not keeping balanced you might have accumulated heavy metals in your body. This can be determined through Bio Resonance Scanning and then you can do Ionic Detox and an oral Heavy Metal Detox.
How Can You Alkalinize
Nutritional changes – Ensure your diet is made up of approximately 75% of alkalinizing foods. Remember all meats are acidic so always eat more vegetables than meats. You can read my blog “Vegetable Protein verses Meat”. You can also google alkaline/acid food chart and print it off to put on your fridge which will give you a guideline. Avoid or limit acidic fruits which are alkaline but stir up acids in the body and if the eliminative organs are not functioning properly (which most people’s are not) these cause more inflammation in the body.
Exercise – Take regular exercise. A walk in the park or a short bicycle ride optimizes oxygen intake as well as promoting the release of carbonic acid in the form of carbon dioxide. If you have a busy life style or your health doesn’t permit exercise you can get your exercise on a T-Zone Vibration machine.
Sufficient Fluid – Water is always the best choice for hydrating and cleansing the body. Think of it as a shower for the inside of the body, and consider would you shower in pop, coffee or juice.
Nutritional Supplementation – It’s not always easy to balance pH by diet alone. So supplementation makes it easier to balance. A couple things you can do is take a Green Food Supplement and Mineral Supplements.
